Non-emergency lines for police, fire and health

Police

You can contact the police about less urgent matters on 101. This line is available 24/7, and is intended for situations such as

  • Reporting a crime that has already happened (for example fraud, thefts, damages, suspected drug use)
  • Reporting policing information and intelligence
  • Reporting a minor traffic collision
  • To speak to your local police officer
  • To get crime prevention advice

Healthcare

Out-of-hours urgent care can be accessed 24/7 by phoning 111. This service is intended for situations such as:

  • You think you need to go to A&E, but it’s not a critical emergency (including cuts, burns, or broken bones)
  • You need support from GP services but they are closed

The 111 line can arrange for telephone/video consultations, or book an appointment for A&E/minor injuries. This can help to avoid long queues at the hospital waiting room.

Animals

SSPCA – Helpline – For reporting a mistreated, neglected, injured or distressed animal, or asking about welfare advice – https://scottishspca.org/ or 03000 999 999 (7.30am-8pm)

PDSA – Vet Care services available to pet owners who receive either Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit, and live within a defined catchment area around each PetAid hospital or practice – 0800 731 2502 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm)

Gas

National Grid – if you smell gas, report carbon monoxide, or think there’s a gas leak then call free – 0800 111 999 (24hr)

  • Do not smoke
  • Do not turn electric switches on or off
  • Open all doors and windows
  • Turn off the meter if possible

Electricity

105 is the new contact number if 

  • You have a power cut
  • You’ve spotted that any electrical network equipment has been damaged 
  • There is an electrical emergency
