You may be aware of a donation of £1 million made earlier this year to the Council by Pladis, the owners of the former McVitie’s factory in Tollcross which closed in 2022. The funding was to provide “a legacy that would benefit the local community in the area the site was based”.
The Council has been considering how best to allocate this funding to reflect views of people living in the vicinity of the former factory and to support people into employment.
To ensure local views are represented and appropriate governance is put in place – and as the former factory was close to the boundary of both – it is proposed that members of the Calton and Shettleston Area Partnerships consider a shortlist of options for funding and make your views known to the Council’s City Administration Committee which has the authority to allocate the funds.
If you have any thoughts about how this money could benefit the local area as described above, contact CCC using info@calton-community-council.scot and we will feed your ideas back to the Area Partnership.
