On top of Paul Sweeny’s comments to BBC Radio Scotland, Alison Thewliss MP has been in contact with Calton Community Council to inform us of her efforts to ensure that scenes on the 18th of May do not occur again.

In her email, Mrs Thewliss explained to the Community Council that she had met with the Head of City Services, Parks and Major Events at Glasgow City Council, who told her that the Football Clubs are becoming more proactive in engaging with the council.

Mrs Thewliss (along with Kaukab Stewart MSP) has also written to Michael Nicholson, CEO of Celtic Plc, and Neil Doncaster, CEO of the SPFL”highlighting the obstruction and disorder caused by the unofficial Celtic celebrations on Trongate and pressing them on the importance of coordinating future plans with the Council and Police Scotland, suggesting that a fan zone could and should be introduced in order to avoid future negative effects on local residents and businesses and allowing fans to enjoy celebrations with proper facilities.”

She closed her email reassuring the Community Council that she will continue to engage with relevant stakeholders and community organisations to find a resolution.
