Inconsiderate and nuisance parking

At our last public meeting on Thursday 08 October, a person with a business on the Gallowgate, close to the Barras expressed great concern about parking, not only on double yellow lines and footways but across gateways to private parking areas.

On Thursday last week, along with what was a capacity crowd, our Chairperson ventured out to the Barras Halloween Market and was shocked to see how many private cars were parked on the open area between Charlotte Street on the west, Greendyke Street on the east and London Road on the north and Charlotte Street to the west.
All these vehicles are parking either on or adjacent to a cycle lane in an area that is used by pedestrians as well as people cycling. Allowing random parking there is an accident waiting to happen.

We were also led to understand at our meeting that there is concern within some of the parking warden workforce about the verbal and physical abuse that they encounter during their working day. Unfortunately this was mentioned after the Police Scotland representatives left, but no-one should suffer verbal or physical abuse at their work and if it means that parking patrols have been reduced then we are all losing out.

If you see or experience inconsiderate or nuisance parking, you can report it using this link https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/article/6307/Report-a-Parking-Problem or using the MyGlasgow app (under More Services; Parking.

By reporting issues in this way, it will help to build up a picture for the department on where issues are and the frequency of occurence.
