Commonwealth Games – Get involved.

Be part of the Glasgow 2026 Opening Ceremony

Glasgow 2026 has announced that the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony will take place at the iconic OVO Hydro, and organisers are now recruiting 700 volunteer cast members to help bring the show to life.

Taking place on 23 July, the ceremony will be the first in Games history to be staged in an arena setting, creating an immersive experience that celebrates Glasgow’s culture, creativity and communities.

Volunteers aged 16+ are invited to apply, with opportunities for dancers, performers, musicians and enthusiastic participants of all backgrounds. No previous experience is required, all we are looking for is energy, commitment and a passion for being part of something special.

This is a unique chance to help deliver a world‑class international event and showcase Glasgow to a global audience.

National Lottery goes All In for Glasgow 2026

We’re delighted to share that the National Lottery has gone All In and announced an additional £2.2 million of National Lottery funding to support community, arts and sports activity inspired by the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

This significant boost will be delivered through National Lottery Awards for All Scotland, a small grants programme that helps grassroots activity thrive. Funding of up to £10,000 is available for projects running for up to 12 months, empowering organisations to bring people together through sport, creativity and community celebration.

Small grants like these play a vital role in strengthening local connections and ensuring the Games leave a positive, lasting legacy long after the final medal is awarded.

Interested organisations can call 0300 123 7110 or email advicescotland@tnlcommunityfund.org.uk to discuss their ideas before applying.

Glasgow community groups are celebrating a £1.25 million funding boost linked to the return of the Commonwealth Games to the city this summer.

The Glasgow 2026 Festival will be a celebration of sport, culture and community taking place between 23 May and 9 August 2026, in the lead up to and during the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

A key part of the festival is the Glasgow 2026 Festival Fund which was launched last year as a £250,000 grant programme. The Festival Fund is providing funding grants of up to £10,000 to 163 projects across all 23 of Glasgow’s wards, ensuring a city-wide programme of community-led events, performances, sports participation and cultural activities, designed to celebrate Glasgow’s creativity and communities.
