On July 16th, the Chair of CCC (Tricia Fort) and Jo Shoba met with 2 representatives fro Glasgow City Council and 2 representatives fromo M & D, who organised the Winter Wonderland 2025-2026 event.
After our (CCC) public petition with 125 signatures opposing Winter Wonderland, our (CCC) appearance at the GCC’s Wellbeing, Equalities, Communitites, Culture & Engagement City Policy Committee in January 20256; the online feedback meeting with Council staff at which very vigorous opposition to the Winter Wonderland was voiced and our (CCC) online survey attracting over 100 responses, we hoped for some acknowledgement of local views. But no, we were bluntly told that only minor changes would be made to equipment and layout – and, in reposponse to public demand, the fair would also open on New Years Day – leaving only Christmas Day when it would close.
In response to this news, the Chair wasa asked to write to our 4 city councillors, askig them to attend a meeting with us. The Chair heard nothing and thus sent a second message. This time, one did respond, but only to sat that her previous mail arrived during council recess. It should be noted, that only one councillor attend our (CCC) August public meeting.
