An application has been received for the use of the former Central Police Headquarters building as 45no. flatted dwellings and associated works at 4-16 Turnbull Street. This is made up of 13 one-bed flats, 18 two-bed flats, 3 three-bed flats, 4 two-bed duplexes, 3 three-bed duplexes, and 4 four-bed duplexes. 11 of the residences have private garden space, and a further 21 have private terrace space.
The application proposes to retain, clean, and repoint the red stone and brick on Turnbull Street, and all windows will be replaced. An entirely new roof is to be fitted, and all existing gutters are to also be replaced. The applicant has taken care to look at historical drawings and images and proposes to return some of Turnbull Street’s original facade, giving 4 identical windows to the south of the pend entrance. Furthermore, internally the applicant aspires to “celebrate the existing building’s architectural features whilst also repurposing it for 21st-century habitation”. Internal visualisations of these finishes have been provided.
One comment of support has been submitted to the Planning Application so far, complimenting its restoration of an existing building whilst providing homes in the area.
Below, we have attached the full design statement, as it includes many key images. However, further details can be found at 22/03262/FUL, and all comments, views and objections should be sent by 13/02/2023 to planning&licensing@calton-community-council.scot
