Winter Wonderland Hub

With the arrival of the Winter Wonderland Hub in Glasgow Green, the Chair of the Community Council has been in contact with GCC with concerns being raised by local residents. The following email was sent on 23rd November.

“Hello,

We are now just two days in to the “Winter Wonderland” on the Green and local residents are just dreading the days following until we finally get to 04 January, with the only respite being Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

It has already been established that you did not have the correct details when we held a meeting with you on 05 November. You have failed to give us a contact number for the event. You did not even give us the correct days and timings of the event.
Contrary to general practice, the Community Council has not been issued with the appropriate applications required for the event. Normally, we are able to support, or otherwise, an application for a food bar or two for a running event. There has been nothing for this event and we are aware that most of the stalls are selling food and drinks.

Also, we are sent applications for trading licences, for example when the Barras Market are open for extra hours.

In addition we would be sent applications for alcohol licences; although this is rare, since Calton is already an “area of over-provision.

Already residents living near the Green have contacted Environmental Health over concerns about the generators and at least one noise complaint has been submitted.

Could you please now put us in contact with the person / people with all the correct information about the event so that the Community Council and local residents may have a meaningful discussion with them?

With best wishes and many thanks in advance,

Chair, Calton Community Council.
